Well with all the news about cat theft and having a bit of spare time some rebar offcuts and the wish to cover myself in molten weld sparks I created this underbody art.
It might not be pretty but it might divert some low life to another vehicle. It is fully removable if you know how and although a combination of rebar and an old winch cable is passable.
Comments are welcome but bear in mind I have at least $2 into this project.
The passenger side has 3 mounting points and the driver side 2. I drilled through the gearbox cross member and that gave me a lip to rest on and stops the guard from being dislodged without the correct unbolt sequence.
You should use a couple of different size bolts that are recessed(so they can not be ground off easily). The different size heads mean a change of sockets to remove the cage. The more time it takes, means the thief will quit to look for easier pickings.
The unit is held on with concealed bolts of 2 different sizes,on the cross member I used a non-standard cap screw. I am looking for why bother at all, rather than let me check what type of bolts are used. It was done as a deterrent not a challenge but very good points.
