Custom Bumpers Almost Done!
Gotta get powder-coated this week, but the basic build is complete. Steel with a simple storage box. From and back for less than the cost of the front Aluminess. (And more appropriate to my 2WD cruiser.)

And I have to say, the 3M headlamp polish kit is easy and works!

Re: Custom Bumpers Almost Done!
Yeah, they're finishing up the back. It looks basically like the front on the outside bits, but just a straight line across, no locker, no tri-section.
I'm pretty psyched. I was so worried that it was going to end up looking 1) Too tough, and therefor poseur-y, or 2) just dumb.

Joel, that looks great! Who did the work? Also, how much did the front bumper cost? I want a new aluminess bumper, but the costs, is well, ridiculous!

Re: Custom Bumpers Almost Done!
Local fab shop here in Eugene. Great guys. When it's all done the front and back plus the powder coating will be around $1800.

Re: Custom Bumpers Almost Done!
What engine do you have? The reason I ask is because the 6.0 takes all the cooling air it can get. Gas engines don't need as much air, and your bumper looks like it could block air to the lower part of the radiator.
When first installed my front bumper had a big, flat area below the grill - just like yours! And we had overheating on a hot day climbing a long hill going into Death Valley. I drilled 11 2" holes in the bumper to allow more air to get into the radiator and no more problems.

Re: Custom Bumpers Almost Done!
I like it! I am making a front (Aluminum) using Chris's (Ujoint) as a rough example. My rear will be steel as its weight will not be as important.

Re: Custom Bumpers Almost Done!
Looks really good, Are you doing it yourself?
I got the steel bent and cut for my rear bumper and then found a used RoadArmer with the tire rack Pivit and Baja box from Dave at Aluminess for sale and i just couldn't pass it up. Im going to finish the making the rear bumper since im in it 1/2 way. If you guys know any one interested in it let me know. I will sell it for what I have in it should be about $700 after powder coating.

I'm gas. 5.8L. That's still good to know, though. I'll keep an eye on it. Of course I've got that front storage locker so if everything gets too hot I can just throw a bag of ice in there to cool the whole bumper down.
