diesel heater install

Most of the way through this 2d planar heater install. I have routed the exhaust and air intake and fuel line. Exhaust coming out in front of rear rear well, the air intake is tucked up underneath the cross bar forward of the rear axle. Fuel line run to back of vehicle where spare used to be, where I would like to install a small diesel fuel tank. Can anyone recommend what size tank and what and how to mount it to the underside of the van, as well as running a fuel fill up to somewhere accessible. I was thinking of running a 1" hose from auxilliary tank through the old spare removal hole next to the rear barn door latch. Aside from drilling another hole through my floor, i woudl like to be abel to fill the diesel from above and not have to crawl underneath the van.

Any ideas.

I think mounted on the back side of a tire swing away is a good location for a 10L or ~2.6G tank, that’s what comes with some of the kits found on Amazon. I’m planning on using this location on my project van, you can loop the fuel feed line down the swing away mount post to under the van in a small wire loom or protective sleeve and secure with zip ties.

Yep, I'd mount it on the rear bumper too if you have an Aluminess or rear mounted spare/box. My plan is to drop the fuel line in to a Rotopax and ditch the small tank that comes with a lot of these heaters.

That is exactly how I did it, and there have been zero problems. As for the exhaust, I extended it using a piece of 3/4 EMT (electrical conduit) so it exits out the back under the bumper, to reduce the chance of wind blowing exhaust fumes back under the van.

The rotopax idea sounds great. Will it mount to the rear of the tire on the swing out? That would be ideal if it did. The Planar unit does not come with a tank at all

It’s hard to tell from the photo how it’s positioned, but The muffler has a small condensate drain hole that should point down.

All the more reason to use a Rotopax. Yes, you can mount Rotopax about anywhere. They make mounts for any location you can dream up.

How much run time are you getting out of a 2.5gal rotopax?

It completely depends on what the outside temp is and how long it runs on high. I run mine for a couple hours in the morning, and three or four in the evening. If it's around the mid 30s or low 40s, I probably get four or five days out of the 10.5L tank. That's assuming it runs on low almost all of the time.

I also usually got nearly a week out of one fill of diesel. I think my tank was 7-8 liters, 2ish gallons.
