Here’s a chart showing the insanely low power draw and fuel consumption of these things. The Chinese ones are a direct copy so probably about the same.

Something to keep in mind is that the CDH glow-plugs draw 10 amps on startup for about 1 minute and 10 amps on shutdown for 1 minute. A lot of people have a problem getting enough current to the unit using the small gauge power wires provided with the kit and can cause an error code. The work around is to shorten the wires down as much as possible for your connection. If your connection is not good for a 10 amp draw, cut wires down to a nub and attach a length of 12 or 10 gauge wire (depending on distance) straight to the battery.

Heater Sizing and Performance
Have had Espar DL4 in a 37 ft sailboat for 10 years. Kept us toasty on the East Coast down to 5F and 45 knots of wind.
Have (i think) a D4 in the E350 SMB and so far works well, but only used it into the 30s.
One thing to keep in mind, is you need more heat than just the temperature. Its key to keep a window or vent open to take all the moisture from respiration, etc. out, so you need a plus up there.
Ive had really good reliability from the Espar, with the exception if the glow plug, but thats a 30 min. Swap. I think the land units use a glow pin, which doesnt coke up as bad.

That's really good to know, thanks. I'll probably run a #12 from the battery to the heater just in case.

I had a D7L in my trawler, and that thing was a monster, I can't imagine it in anything less that a 50 footer.

Have a look at parts 1 and 2 of this Aussie video. It will be the best info, you have ever seen. He has many other tutorial diesel heater videos also. Enjoy your heater. My 2kw has served me well for the last 4 years.

I have had 2 Espar D5 5K hydronic heaters in 2 different vans and loved them. the only issue I have with any of them, including Chinese, is that the fans are too noisy even if you turn them down.
