Double layer of hoodliner for doghouse?

Hello,

I just "treated" our Ford E350 7.3 L diesel for engine noise (see other thread started by Wanderluster). I treated:
1. floor
2. doghouse
3. doors
4. hood

The results are really good up till 55 MPH, but above 55 MPH I would like it a bit quieter still. Since the doghouse is the primary noise source (treated or untreated), I was wondering if anyone tried adding a second layer of dynamat hoodliner to the doghouse. I think there would be enough space to not touch anything of the engine. Has anyone tried this?

Right now the doghouse has:
first layer: dynamat extreme
Second layer: dynamat hoodliner
I would be adding a third layer: 2nd layer of dynamat hoodliner

Thanks, Marcel

Just a thought; they make a fuel line crossover pipe, that reduces the 'rattling' of the 7.3 Diesel at idle and when you let off the throttle.

I've heard one in use, and considered using one on my 7.3 van, they do make a difference.

The kit comes with fittings that tap into the left and right head's fuel gallery, via a couple of unused factory 1/8NPT pipe plugs, and a pre-bent stainless steel tube with AN hardline fittings if I remember right. I think they are <$100

Thanks Tom! Does this crossover pipe only reduce noise when idling and letting go of the throttle? Or also when cruising along?

From RiffRaff diesel. Designed for the 7.3L, but don't know if its compatible with the E-series.

I've considered it off and on for my Excursion, but never pulled the trigger.

I noticed less noise overall at idle and cruising when I ran diesel fuel line from the tank to the block (I have the older 7.3 without the electric pump) eliminating the stainless lines and quick connects. The quick connects let air in under suction which creates cackle.

Thanks r27d! So the RiffRaff diesel fuel rail cross over installed fine in the E350, or did you encounter issues?

Very interesting...

There's also a fuel filter and air separator assembly that's supposed to remove 'entrained' air bubbles in the fuel, said to cause rattling. It's called "Air Dog"

I also saw this injector oil pressure equalizer tube installed onto an OBS 1996 F350 from RiffRaff: seemed to do as advertised, smoothed out the idle, rattled less.

I did not do the fuel rail cross over. I planned on doing a "hutch mod" with this kit: https://www.riffraffdiesel.com/riffr...-fuel-mod-kit/ and a new fuel pickup foot https://www.riffraffdiesel.com/fuel-...ot-and-screen/ .

However, my '98 has the old sending unit in the tank which does not have a "mixing chamber" that the kit eliminates.

So, I reinstalled the tank/sending unit as-is and ran new rubber 3/8" diesel fuel line to the hard lines on the block. About 3 feet from the block I installed a 50 micron Wix 33972 screen which has already caught some crap after two tanks and should keep stuff out of my fuel bowl filter. Some people spend more and install a Racor system like this: https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...od-filter.html or RiffRaff sells a canister too.

Since I opened up the Riff Raff Hutch kit and reamed out the pickup screen I have it for sale: http://www.sportsmobileforum.com/for...aff-24658.html

Last thing to note about a Hutch mod and an E350. In the vans there's a pan in the bottom of the tank that's necessary for the gas vans. Some Hutch Mod kits and threads show a stainless extension for the fuel return to move it 18" away from the pickup. I talked to Clay from RiffRaff on the phone and he doesn't think it's really necessary to to that which is why his kit includes a short section of hose to deflect the return. Here's a thread where a guy bent some line up over the pan, just don't use a paper filter like he did . https://www.powerstroke.org/forum/e-...l#post11782226

Using Stanadyne in the fuel quiets a 7.3 down noticeably. I use it at every fill up.
