Excel Vent-Free Tankless Propane Water Heater

https://www.campingworld.com/excel-vent-free-tankless-propane-water-heater-low-pressure-startup-1.6gpm-105040.html

My smb didn’t come with a water heater and looking to install a fixed mount one for interior use.

We have propane and want to avoid electric and coolant heat exchange type heaters which led me to this unit.

Would love to hear feedback on installation and use from fellow members on this particular unit. Cheers !

What does "Vent Free" mean??
Looks like the EcoTemp / Triton / Joolca units.

If I were to go this route I think I would just go w the Joolca kit.

What are you using hot water for? This unit is fine for hot showers but a pita for washing hands, momentary use.

Already have a Joolca. But that’s for outdoor use. The Excel is advertised as indoor. Looking for first hand feedback from excel users.

Okay. Not a first hand Excel user but a bit of feedback anyway -

The Excel is rated for "indoor" use because they have an Oxygen Depletion Sensor to shut the unit off when O2 levels have dropped enough in the "indoor" area. It is still drawing combustion air (O2) from the space it is mounted and operated in. It is still putting out "some" CO due to combustion and it is putting out a lot of water vapor into the "indoor" area as result of combusting propane.

So "Vent Free" in a van will work w some windows open if you want to have the hot exhaust air and water vapor present.

You can put your Joolca inside and pretty much get "first hand" experience on what you will get w the Excel. Only diff between Joolca and Excel is going to be the ODS.

Like I said, no first hand Excel experience but .......

Rays observations are spot on. Personally, I’ve spent years just heating water in the coffee pot on the stove when needed for dish / hand washing or other needs. I even fill the solar shower with preheated water for those days when the suns not out or I’m in a hurry.
