Extra Seat in 50 plan?

Anyone ever add a bracket and an extra jump seat in a 50 style van. Most of the time I wouldn't want it, but sometimes we have 1 more extra person and it would be nice to add a seat that we could remove if we have to. I know SMB stopped making removable seats in their rigs due to federal regs or something like that... but that really hasn't stopped me before.

seat

Hello Joe,

SMB should be able to supply you with everything you need for adding the 3rd captain seat. There are no regulations preventing them from installing one for you. In fact, if you have the door galley that swings open, they have a real nice replacement piece to cover the door opening when the seat is installed.

Check with Peter at SMB, he should be able to help you with everything you need, even matching upholstery or leather!

Good luck!

I have a removable 3rd captain's chair in my van.

SMB told me that they had to permantly mount the base for the chair. And it is a toe breaker!!!! And you can't remove it, because the 4 nuts under the floor will get lost and you wont be able to reinstall it.

I made a nut plate (a plate with the 4 nuts mounted to it) for the chair, and screwed it to the underside of the van. Now I can remove the chair and the mounting base and put flat head screws into the holes - and a flat floor!

It was a pain adding the nut plate, because there is a heat shield that must be removed to get to the underside of the floor.

I have same, in '04 EB50, and would be interested in seeing that nut plate Mike. Interesting concept. Have gotten used to the existing hump when 3rd seat not in use but sure would ne nice to have it not there too.

I don't have any pictures of my 3rd seat, but it looks just like the one Jeremiah posted above - except for upholstery is fabric. And, I can't take a picture of the nut plate, because it is now behind a heat shield under the van.

Now I remember, I had to remove heat shield to mount the nut plate. Except I couldn't get to all the screws holding the heat shield, so I had to cut it in half while it was in place.

Yeah, since living in my EB 50 I'm really glad the 3rd seat isn't there. I've taken 4 adults and a teen in the 50 at once, but it was cozy. Still better without the seat I think.

And only 6K miles (that's not a typo). My wife didn't like the color. When I discussed the price with my financial advisor she agreed it was bad in any color!

I wonder who wound up with it...
