EZ Rack, Rotopax, Maxtrax Oh My!

Worked on installing the EZ Rack I got from Rock Slide Engineering today. Very lightweight and EZ to install. Also added an extra bracket--the white part--to support the Maxtrax traction ramps I bought. Plus, I thought it would be wise to carry extra fresh water and diesel, so I bought some of the exceptional Rotopax tanks and mounting hardware. I was blown away by the quality of these American made goodies. I can now carry four extra gallons of water and fuel. Only the fuel tank is shown as the water tank is on backorder and will be here next week.

Shows how the Rotopax tanks can be stacked.

Very happy with the installation--a few adjustments needed, but the real week link is the flimsy Aluminess swing away arms. Gonna fix those by installing spherical bearings in the arms.

Here's a video showing the EZ installation--remember, the camera adds ten pounds:

That rack is very cool even if it is ten pounds lighter that it looks in the video.

It's actually very light. Made out of aluminum.

Did you make the MAXTRAX bracket or does Rockslide have it available?

I made it. Needs some work though--it's too flexible.

Re: EZ Rack, Rotopax, Maxtrax Oh My!

Tom, is there a way to lock it down and is it designed for the rotopax? Oh...and how much for the rack by itself?

Re: EZ Rack, Rotopax, Maxtrax Oh My!

The Rotopax have locks built into the handles--I used one to hold the Maxtrax in place--and I rigged up a bicycle cable lock to lock the EZ Rack to the spare tire carrier. It was designed with Rotopax in mind--they are made next door and RSE is a dealer--but anything could be mounted to them. The rack is about 6.5" deep.

The full rack is like $400, but you can also buy just the tire clamps and strap to do whatever you'd like.

It's also very light. My bad shoulders make it look heavy in the video, but that's not the case.
