The fuel cap is tethered and just hangs down onto the paint. Always bugged me.
So, I added a self tapping screw to the hinge.
Now the cap stays up off the paint.

I have a tip that saved my paint from my clumsiness when I did this:
Before drilling the hole for the screw, wedge a piece of scrap wood between the curved arm and the body of the van when the fuel door is open. This kept my drill bit from contacting the body paint when it punched through the arm.
