How high is high enough!?

OK sports fans...... with all the talent in this group I know this is a easy one. My 95 2wd just received a 4:10 and a detroit locker in the rear. ( a nice boost to the fanny I might add) My question is, she has lousy 2" lift. My baby has saggy springs on the front end that only Dr Ray from 90210 can lift, tuck, and insert a new set of double bolt ons, lifting er up another 2" to a decent 4" lift. Question: Is this enough? What is the standard height approx; from stock, lift that a sportsmobile has? Thanks, any help would be helpful. Another question.....after the lift, will I need sway bars. I have a nice set on there now, but will they need to be put back on?

That is about the same lift as my S-K 4wd van, and more lift than a Quigley conversion. Unless you are into serious off-road and rockcrawling it should be enough lift.

I have a larger front anti-sway bar and no rear bar. I had a rear bar, but didn't like the way it made the van ride, so I took it off. Sold the bar to a guy on another forum and likes it on his van.

Enough for what? Stock van height is enough for a lot of things, 2" is enough for others, and 4" is enough for most things. I don't say that to be a smart a$$ (though I usually am), but it all depends on what you are/will be doing with your SMB. There are a lot of advantages to going with the lowest lift possible, which is what's required to clear your front end. Ask yourself what your realistic uses for your SMB will be, and that will help guide what lift to go with.

between my 37" tires and 8 inch lift, (I sit about 6" higher than an SMB 4x4 with 315's) I wouldn't go any higher, the tradeoffs aren't worth it with regards to accessibility and stability. I don't feel that my van is UNstable, I just wouldn't go any higher.

The accessibility is the big thing though. It's no deal for me, as I'm athletic, but I have friends we have to break out the step stool for, even with the electric steps.

The biggest reason for my "neeed to lift" .....is my saggy coil springs make my 265/17/16 BFG's rub anytime I drive over a driveway while my wheels are turned. This actually chips rubber off my tires. So this monday, the 19th i'm gettin' the 4" lift. (Like a kid in a candy store, or maybe the nite before christmas..... i'm awaiting with child-like anicipation.) No...... Honey, now listen; .....no, wait, this is really for practical reasons. I, or we need to do this modification or we might burn and crash. Yes, I said crash.... from complete tire failure. I'm REALLY doing this for you! Why?! .....Why??.... Obviously because I LOVE YOU! and no. Stop blaming o.c.d. or male P.M.S. on this one (any takers? diggin what I'm burying)

Ships log: Friday November thirtieth (spelling) Finally after much nagging, nudging, plotting and pleading, I picked up my 95 rb to find out he put a 6" lift in er. At first I was a little worried but when I saw my baby I was really pleasantly surprised. In the rear we pulled out the two inch block from under the original 3 leaf pack and put in a new leaf set from National Leaf Springs in El Cajon. The original shackles would not fit these new nine leaf pack, so Jeromy at Weldteck fabricated new ones. Really really nice shackles (i must be loosen' it to be diggin these) A new set of Bilsteins and really busty coils in the front. He also made and welded the new radius arms for the front. So, for any curious out there I'm going to get out the digi- cam and post a few pics. Because its a ninety five, it has alot of retro, with alot of new stuff Ive been having fun with. Also! Could not believe the ride difference. We threw away the Rancho's because of the new Bilsteins. These new gas shocks with the new leaf pack make a huge difference in the ride. Also the SMB was weighed prior to the Springs ordered to meet the specs. She weighed in at 7,840 lbs!! What up tubbo. Anyway, with that kind of wieght in the rear I'm confident the detroit locker will handle 90% of my disasters on the road. Allready after tonites ride on the slick muddy back roads of S.Diego I've noticed her grab with so much more confidence. Too much fun. By for now! C
