Interchangeable rear end years

I have a 2011 Ford e250 the rear diff is on its way out came across a used rear end complete from 2006 for $250.00. When I talked to the guy he said it was 2011 so I took the ride. The frame engine trans and axles were in the private back yard with 2006 on the engine. So he lied, so I left w/o the parts plus he said 34K miles lie #2. Anyway the differential cover was exact and the rest looked good as well. That said is there standard interchangeability within designated years of a particular differential and axles? if so would anyone be able to point me in the right direction? please

There are differences .....the RSC equipped vans have ABS sensors on each rear wheel (needed for RSC)....older rear ends have a single ABS sensor on the diff.....

Are you looking to get a FF rear end?

Depending on your plans, there are also gearing concerns......there is usually an axle code somewhere on the axle....helps to determine gearing, limited slip, etc.

Two more things......(I'm no expert here......YMMV)...there are Danas and Sterlings as well.....and single rear wheel and dual rear wheel versions.

...and a few other differences as far as width goes I think starting at E450

Semi hijack....

Anyone have a chart showing FF wms to wms distance for any of the rear ends out there.

I can find lots for SF rear ends and all the front axles, but no FF.

Goal here is to swap in modern rear end with discs and move the rear wheels out a few inches?

My 97 does not have ABS
Will any newer rear with discs fit?
I take it I would have to just cap off where the ABS sensors go and will have to upgrade the emergency brake cable.

You need an RSC axle for sure and I am thinking any Econoline 2011+ axle should work, maybe 2010+. You can always check fordparts.com and see but I am pretty sure there. Way to tell if it's RSC is that your rear brakes will have separate incoming brake lines for each side instead of one incoming line teed off for both brakes. RSC is good fun.
