I use it almost exclusively for GPS mapping while driving. I have to admit, I also play my MP3's using WinAmp on shuffle mode and connected to the stereo...
What's nice is that the mount rotates, making it easy for my co-pilot to surf the net (Sprint wireless Air Card), adjust the music or whatever.

Re: Laptop Mount 2008 SMB
I have the same as Joey Nick. Seems to work well but blocks the radio slightly. Ram makes tons of arms and adaptors to address this. It absorbs shock well but I wish I had what I have in my work truck.
It's one of the best I've seen and used. It locks, has no cords, has several ports, but is for Panasonic tough book. The stand would be a problem for those who climb between the seats and a floor mount type pedistal must be place so the passenger seat will turn. They might make something that can bolt to the doghouse.
As far as safety, you have to pay attention. Driving at work (where my eyes many times are not on the road) is much more dangerous and I have to take that into account. With my SMB the PC is for off road maps only where I'm at a slower speed and traffic is minimal. I use a window mounted Garmin for paved use.

Re: Laptop Mount 2008 SMB
I myself am using an Onyx laptop mount in all my vehicles. They just bolt one to seat bolt in your vehicle, or any bolt for that matter. They are way more affordable and just as durable as the previously mentioned brands above. Plus they are way more usable in different applications than just in a vehicle. They can be taken out of the vehicle in under 3 seconds and moved to wherever you have another mating nub located. It's easier to understand from the pictures and info on this site http://www.dura-mounts.com

Re: Laptop Mount 2008 SMB
I use a "no drill" Ram mount with mine. You can see it in another post.
I use a DRS Tactical Xtreme tablet in my van (on my Dual sport too) with the gps directions playing through my radio once it is set up I do not have to mess with it. Not tempted to text or anything else while driving.

Re: Laptop Mount 2008 SMB
No, it's a solid arm that mounts at the right rear of the dock. I'll try to find it and post a link or take a picture of mine in the near future.

Re: Laptop Mount 2008 SMB
This is what I am waiting for.
Someones photoshop idea of what the future Apple tablet will look like. Think of a large Iphone with wireless keyboard. It would fit perfectly on top of the doghouse.
Maybe next Xmas.

I work in the gadget biz. If tablets or ereaders interest you all, I'd definitely wait until the end of January to make any big purchases. Apple's gonna do *something*.
