New Car Smell...not!

My 13YO SMB has always had an interesting smell to it. It is not terrible, but smells kinda like 'grandmas' house. Slightly musty, but not moldy. It does not smell like an old RV

Does anyone else have this smell? I think it might be coming from the cabinets or carpet. Grey tank is closed, I have no black water and the porta is clean. I keep the windows cracked open and put 2 air fresheners and its parked in my garage.

Any suggestions to give me a 'new' car smell.

My 2000 Jeep gets this musty smell during the winter because the soft top leaks, snow is tracked in, and it never really dries out until summer. I've tried with the carpet in and out to no avail.

Have you tried Febreeze (however you spell it)? It's great at getting out odors.

My '88 Cherokee had a strange smell for months when I bought it used. I then found a half eaten cheeseburger under the back seat. It was wrapped in a McDonalds wrapper.

I eventually had to sell the Cherokee becuase when it was hot out, I always smelled the chesseburger smell. I finally realized it was a leaky sunroof. I suggest you look for water leaks in the top.

Just my 2 cents.

I do keep a de-humidifier on board while at home when plugged into the shore (extension cord) power. So far OK.

Great suggestions...

I keep my SMG in the garage and don't think I have any leaks...Anyone know where the typical leaks appear???

The 'wood' panels are really a compressed paper.
- I'm thinking this is normal decomposition of the paper.
- I might have to pull some panels and seal them or paint.

I did have a leak from the AC drip line.
- This may also have smelled up the carpets...but the smell is not like 'wet dog' or 'musty celler'

- Febreese was tried...'fart in the wind!'
- Pulled covers off the PH bed and washed.
- Steam cleaned dinette anc carpets too.
- Top smells clean.
- May have to check the fridge insulation...

A good hot sunny day with all the windows open and sunshine might do the trick.

You could move to the desert.

Used car dealers supposedly put several halved apples in the car for a couple days to remove odors. Can't say from experience, though.

I don't have personal experience, but have heard that ozone odor treatments work well for many smells.

Another trick is to spread coffee grounds on the floor & let it sit there for a while. Then just vacuum them up.
