Noise insulation - Dynamat

Appreciate the input. As we take off to CO tomorrow I'll have about 14 hours to meditate on a solution to engine noise. I decided to order the Bose noise-canceling headphones and be done with it....at least until I get pulled over!

Although Dynamat is advertised and sold as a sound dampening material, I do agree that a thicker, possibly heavier, barrier would be more successful in dampening the transmitted engine noise. Heat transfer has yet to be a concern for us.

I'll post any solutions I discover after the trip.

Thanks again,

Walt

Noise insulation - Dynamat

Final Comments:

It turns out that a major factor contributing to our noise problem after the Dynamat install was the improper seating of the doghouse cover...as correctly suggested by a few SMB owners.

I reinstalled the doghouse cover properly and the noise levels dropped considerably. Now, post Dynamat there seems to be some subjective reduction in engine noise, although not as much as hoped for.

Objectively, the sound meter now records levels about 2-3 dbs lower than before.

Overall, it's better but not optimal. I'm still planning on pursuing some additional soundproofing materials (thicker sound dampeners as suggested), and will post if any signicant gains made.

Until then, thanks for the input and I'll try to post some pictures of our recent trip back to the Colorado rockies.

Walt
