Re: Paint or powder coat? Satin, semi-loss or Gloss black?

I prefer the look of flat black, but IMO there are two reasons to go with semi gloss or glass.

1) provides some textural contrast to the more or less flat black tires
2) easier to clean off brake dust and road grime

Plus if you do it that way you do not have to have the tires removed to do a good job unless you are going to have them Powder Coated.

Paint or powder coat? Satin, semi-loss or Gloss black?

Very nice, that's what I would do too.

Re: Paint or powder coat? Satin, semi-loss or Gloss black?

I prefer a satin to a gloss black. I had a bunch of stuff on my motorcycle powdercoated and the guy used a 60% Gloss black. I like the way it turned out. A gloss black shows a lot more dirt than a satin.

Have you priced powder coating wheels? Around here (NorthLeft coast) it's gonna cost you about $100 per wheel. Then you have to add the cost of tire removal, new stems and balance on the install. That's probably at least another hun unless you have the machine to do it yourself.

For $500 I'd probably leave 'em lookin stock for a while. Until your checkbook recovers from the rack purchase and you can move into the rims you really want.

Oh yea....isn't satin and semi-gloss pretty much the same thing?

Didn't realize powder coating was so pricey.

Gonna do paint. Got a quote for $120 for all 5 including tire removal and remounting/balancing.

Not sure what's the difference between semi and satin.

Re: Paint or powder coat? Satin, semi-loss or Gloss black?

Les Schwab the tire guys I have do my tire stuff quoted me a cheaper price also. The price they quoted was for a plain Jane type job like the ones you see on a Semi wheel. They were very clear to point out the job wouldn't be of showroom quality. They even said to expect some left over sand from the blasters inside the seams on the wheels. The $100 a wheel job was quoted from the shop that did a bunch of work on my GS. I know they do quality work that looks good. I could probably talk them down since I've had them do at least 5 jobs for me. I did talk them down when they did a couple of catboat frames.

Paint them satin to match your bumper.
No highlight, that looks too much like fake beadlocks. I have them and think they look dumb.

All black. No gloss.
