Painting Furnace Intake/Exhaust

I can't stand chrome or anything shiny on my rig(s). Has anyone ever painted the Suburban furnace plate on the outside of their rig? I wanted to paint it black with high temp engine paint (the thing gets hot in use).. but was wondering how the thing bolted to the side of the body. Are there nuts on the inside? The last thing i need is to unscrew the thing and have nuts fall down into the fender gutters. I'll admit, i haven't looked at my suburban manual yet ..but i will.

Has anyone done this>?... its about the last shiny object on the rig (already painted the drain for the sink) and its bugging the heck out of me

And yes, i know ... this is barely tech... im just alone tonight and bored out of my mind.

Well since no one replied i guess, nobody has done this. I looked at the suburban manual and it shows caulk behind the vent cap area. So needless to say im not pulling it off just to paint it. Maybe i'll mask it later or just leave it be.

This is the only photo I found on the net:

I'm not sure that helps, but if you do pull it you'll know why it's not coming off the top tube.

Adventureduo,
Did you paint all of the crome? Cover for 110V? Water connection? Did you spray with automotive paint or rattle can? I like the idea.

The furnace vent screws are stainless sheetmetal screws that thread into the van body, no nuts on the inside to fall off. The sealant behind the vent is black butyl, which will make removal of the vent a small chore. You'll want to be careful when re-installing the vent, as there are two tubes on the furnace that must align with the tubes connected to the vent.

Taping it off may be the best bet...

All i've painted so far is the sink drain vent on the drivers side. My billet grill upfront is already black, everything else is black. The Cover for the 110 and the water are in a separate compartment so you don't see them. I just used regular rattle can for the sink drain vent.

I got the idea from CJ at the meet and greet. It looks so clean, he even pulled off all his decals too.

Thanks for the info John. I will pass on taking that off then. If i want to paint it, i'll hit it up while it's on the truck.
