Raptor Liner Penthouse, White or Black
I'm going to be doing some work on the top so i can relocate the solar panels to the front and remove a bunch of old screws and plates from some old satelite dish. Gonna prep everything and use raptorliner. I was originally thinking white but they don't make white as a roll on option so it got me thinking of black. I could spray but i think rolling would be easier. I've also read some threads about black not making a noticable difference to heat gain in the rig. So i made a quick photoshop mockup. The first is the existing penthouse (White) and the second is photoshopped Black. I'm kinda digging the black. Which do you prefer?

Looks wise - that black pops out and looks great. However, I remain skeptical that the difference between white vs black won't be noticeable (especially when living in the Vegas Valley).

I prefer the white myself, the black top makes your van look like a Double-Stuf Oreo.
Also, spraying is not too difficult, the most time consuming parts are prep (which you have to do anyway), masking (more time and material than roll-on), and clean up. Just make sure you have a decent compressor on hand.
I hadn't ever done anything like that before, but I did both the fiberglass hood on my Bronco, and a number of areas on my teardrop trailer (fenders, trailer tongue, front of the body) and everything came out great.

On your van I say white all the way, because you have a white van. I've been planning for a while now lining and new bolts for my top as well. However, at least on my roof in the hot sun, the area that I used white bed liner around my vent project is vastly cooler than the burgundy painted area. Running my hand across the ceiling it's obvious where it's white, a solar panel or painted the color of the van.
So I plan on using white. My problem has been I can't get my head around the white as (my personal opinion) the white roof screams "westfalia" or "Ice cream van". EXCEPT on a all white van. So when I saw a video from 4xOverland years ago I thought, why didn't I think of that. I was wondering if on the van in the video the white area is a wrap.
My plan I'm going to go with is black outside of the canvas and down the visible side of the roof and white inside the canvas in the center of the roof. Similar the to van in the video. That way from the ground I see black which I like the look of and white which I like the performance of. I also plan on lining the area on the tin van roof from the canvas though the drip rail so I can get rid of the tape that is probably on the verge of rusting the van roof.
I have all the materials to get this done this summer but now I just need the time. And the clear weather.

Dang, I didn’t realize they don’t make white roll-on Raptor. I was planning on doing that this summer. I’d really rather not fuss with spraying.
The “Double-Stuff Oreo” comment legitimately made me LOL...

heard good things about monstaliner. they offer colors and have tint-able options for custom colors.

I prefer the flexibility of colors, textures, and application methods monstaliner offers. Kind of like all the different ways drywall texture can be done by changing variables. But also there are more ways to NOT get the results you wanted without practice. I also, realize it's probably not what the cool kids use.

^^^ good info, thank you. no personal experience as stated, just relaying what ive seen around the different forums. everything was positive from what ive seen in both applications. both roll and spray on methods.
could care less what the cool kids use. they generally have jingle in their pockets. I don't. I use what I see good reviews about (eventually). would love more input on the issue as im sure the op would. will stay tuned to this thread and hopefully more members will share their experiences with the different options.

Installing a old fixed high top in a few weeks, my van is Burgundy. Still debating on what colour to paint it, will be following this thread.
