RB-50 Bench Seat Headrest Installation

Removable headrests installed: Purchased 2013 F-150 rear bench seat headrests off of Ebay and eventually found the corresponding OEM headrest guide sleeves on a Ford parts website. Fortunately, I had a roll of fabric left over from the original build and that was used to cover the headrests. A local auto restoration company did the metal work and upholstery. Am really pleased with the look and feel much better about our two kids riding back there.

Re: RB-50 Bench Seat Headrest Installation

Wow that looks great! I've always been uncomfortable with the lack of headrests back there.

Would you mind posting exactly what part numbers you used for the sleeves and exactly what model the salvaged headrests were from? Also some detailed pictures of how the sleeves were installed?

Thanks!

Re: RB-50 Bench Seat Headrest Installation

Well done, for sure! I kick myself for not taking the time to do this when recently recovering our rear bench. I figure I have a few more years to get kids out of boosters (with built in head support) and car seats and then this will be a must-do.

Any additional details that you don't mind sharing would be appreciated!

Re: RB-50 Bench Seat Headrest Installation

Unfortunately, I didn't retain any of the paperwork that had part numbers. That said, I found the guide sleeves at Tasca Parts (tascaparts.com). Their website allows you to break down a rear bench seat into its individual components. You just enter the make, model, and year before running a search. Separately, I remember there being plenty of Ford F series headrests available on Ebay (actually found this a bit odd but then discovered lots of comments regarding how the rear bench headrests made it difficult to see). Recommend finding a set with the OEM fabric covers so that they can serve as a guide for the new covers. I went with Ford to maintain the look and to take advantage of the height of a Ford headrest (the RB-50 bench seat is at least 6 inches shorter than bench seats found in other vehicles). Also separately, had to ensure the guide sleeves were set at an angle (5 5/8" off vertical) to account for the angle of the bench seat.

Looks great.

Can you remove them so you can still use the bed?

Edit: Duh. Just reread the post.

How did you put the five point harnes in? Do the straps tuck away enough when the seat is converted to a bed?
