Relocation of fuel tank charcoal canister.

We have removed the cross bracing above the spare tire, the charcoal canister is way bigger than expected and need to relocate.
Any suggestions or instructions will be much appreciated.
Thank you once again, awesome community.

I rotated mine 90 degrees and mounted it to the frame rail. Had to shorten the inlet hose.

Just a thought. A few years ago I was having trouble fueling my van - the gas nozzle kept popping off due to back pressure. Turns out the vent for that charcoal canister was totally plugged with dirt. I drive mainly dirt roads and the location of that vent catches all of it. To prevent any more dirt accumulating in the vent I connected a long length of plastic tubing to the vent and ran it all the way up under the hood, by the headlight, where it does not pick up all the dust kicked up by the tires. No more problems. So since you are accessing that canister, now might be a good time to add that vent line.

While we're telling stories about our charcoal canisters, I had a strange problem with my engine dying when driving up very steep 4x4 trails. It turned out gasoline was getting out of my TransferFlow via the tank suction hose, flowing back into my canister, and then getting sucked into the engine, flooding it. Fix was to add a loop of tubing before the canister input, to an elevation significantly above the gas tank.

Thank you everyone for all your information and support.

Wow I am continually amazed with everyone on this forum, how so very helpful you are sharing your experiences and knowledge. Once again you have shared so much more than I imagined or even thought of.
I lay awake nights thinking of each step of this build process.
I can only do like one step at a time processing and visualizing how to resolve all the unknown unknowns which keep coming up each step of the way. Just like the charcoal canister being so big.
The New York, minimal rust has turned out to be, one can say a mountain of rust. I believe we finally had discovered the last hole in the floor pan. Three cut outs and patches, both rear lower quarter panel corners cut out and replaced inside and out, about 20" in front of the left rear tire, over 3 1/2'of 1/4" X 3" steel stock all welded in now and finally back to just the lower body work. Feels good, looking forward to interior build end of next week.
I am grateful for all your help.

Hello Joe Futrmobl, I am doing the same mod, moving my vapor canister because I am deleting the tire carrier. How did it go for you? Do you have any photos or tips that might help another van nut? Brett

Hi Brett,
No photo yet, we did cut out the spare tire cross member completely, the canister can be mounted on the drivers side along the frame rail long ways. One of the more experienced members helped me figure this out. My van had considerable rust issues. I chose to go with a narrower under storage box, so we made two new mounts and located it in almost the original location. When mounting long ways on the frame the vent hose needs to lengthened. I hope this helps, Joe Furtmbl

Just curious Joe did you replace the spare tire cross member with another sort of frame cross bracing or support in that area?

Just curious, don't intend to derail your thread here.
