Roadshower available again

The Roadshower folks are relaunching apparently. We've wondered about getting one. It seems quite convenient but I wonder about 50 lbs. on one side of a raised PH rooftop. Any thoughts?

Here's their offer:
Quote:
If you would like to lend your support and get a discount, you can order one now for $249.95. This offer is only for customers in the lower 48 states of the United States. You'll have to wait until they are done which should be April 22nd plus a week for shipping. This offer expires April 22, 2013 or if we sell out, which ever happens first. There will be no rain checks. Sorry.

After April 22nd, they will cost $299.95, and will need to be purchased though a Road Shower retailer.

If you pay now, you will reserve one. I have made only 100 this first run. At least 30 are already spoken for. If these sell out quickly, it will be around June 30th when the next batch will be ready.

Re: Roadshower available again

50 lbs sounds like a lot but it's about what most kayaks weigh and there's no structural issue putting a boat on just one side of the PH, just the difficulty of raising it if it's manual.

I would worry a bit if it is not baffled inside. Water surging around is surprisingly powerful. If you used half the water then moved the van on to another spot you'd better have confidence in the brackets holding it on and in the integrity of the roof rack brackets.

Out here in the SW, I'd probably want a thermometer strip on the tank so you can add cold water when needed. Water sitting out in a black, metal container all day will get very hot! Be nice to have one like that rather than have to mess with the plastic bag type.

That thing really appeals to the "Need custom Stuff" geek in me. I'd probably mount it cross wise on the bike rack of my Aluminess rear bumper.

I bet Zeta buys at least two.

I like it, but what I don't like about any vehicle-based shower is that I'd end up with puddles of water or mud right next to my vehicle.

But you would have a nice shower to wash off your feet.

Re: Roadshower available again

My problem is a $250 is a lot of ABS pipe and fittings, and this has to be a 1 banana project.

Re: Roadshower available again

It would be great for a day trip to the beach to rinse off before heading home. Camping? Not enough water to make a difference.

I just put a 30 gal tank in our's and expect that to last me through a 3 to 5 day trip.

Re: Roadshower available again

At my local surf spot I've seen several people with fixed roofs (trucks/vans) that have homemade versions of this. It is basically a fixed and convenient solar shower. Also, there versions held more than 5 gallons I believe. I completely agree with Jage, this should be a homemade project, not a $250 investment.

Re: Roadshower available again

Without a doubt it is expensive. It's made of aluminum not PVC. 5 gallons of water would be more than enough for a couple of showers then it would be time for a refill. Not really a problem to refill it is it?

The price is the main problem for me. I like all the other aspects of it.

I'll wait for the Zeta test report to see how it functions.

Re: Roadshower available again

Biggest problem I see is in the NW, the days you want a hot shower most, the sun never seems to shine. I've tried the solar bag on the roof and been stuck with a cool shower. What I found works very nicely is storing the solar bag on the floor next to the doghouse. Perfect temp for a warm shower after driving around a while.
