seat base swivel question

Hello,
I would like to adapt a swivel mechanism to my front seats but when I look at them they seem to be really close to the door....are your swivel mechanism off center from the middle of the seat so that it clears the side of the van?
do you have a whole new base or just a swivel part mounted on your stock base?
thanks
JT

Re: seat base swivel question

Here is a link to a company that sells a swivel base. The description says it offsets the seat 1"

Re: seat base swivel question

In my last van I had to open the door to swivel the seat all the way.

Re: seat base swivel question

I have 4 swivel seats and they are tight and awkward to swivel.
The kids (9 and 7) are strong but can't do it.

It involves sliding them back and forth on their track while swiveling. Doable but not easy.
The base is centered under the chair.

Re: seat base swivel question

I have fitted swivels on my Chevy and it is true it is tight, but as far as I am concerned it really allows you to use that extra space. I swivel both driver and passenger seats... and yes I too have to slide them forward to get them round without opening the doors...

Re: seat base swivel question

What exactly is the trouble with your seats Bill? Is it stiff to turn? Or is it the snagging on the door trimmings?

Re: seat base swivel question

Hmm yes take a good look...
Couldn't be that something might have got stuck between the swivel plates?
Other idea, is the swivel mechanism a bolt in the centre or bearings?
If it is a bolt maybe it is too tight for some reason...
