Solution Needed: Sticking PH Top Gasket

Any recommendations on how to prevent the Penthouse Top gasket from sticking to the van roof? The gasket still sticks and I have to manually separate portions of the gasket from the roof when raising the top. Tore the gasket at two of the plastic rivet points and don't want to risk any more damage. Thoroughly cleaned both gasket and roof but that didn't fix the problem.

For our build, SMB West applied black UHMW tape on the roof where the gasket contacts it. Provides an interface between gasket & roof and the gasket doesn't stick to it. If you go this way, make sure the roof is absolutely clean before laying down the tape; ours has started to detach in places.

Mine too, although never had any edge gasket sticking issues.

Ford Excursions have rear vent windows, and they can stick to the point where you think the window actuator modtors are shot. Some guys on FTE recommend this product, and since I've been using it (maybe 1-2 per year) I haven't had my windows stick.

This tip was taken from another post somewhere on this forum. Wipe your penthouse roof gasket and plastic tape liner with liquid silicone. Available at your Ford dealer shop supply window. I do this in early spring before heading out for most of my road trips and again in late fall when the van will be mostly parked until the next season's use. Silicone is nasty cancer causing stuff, so read and follow MSDS handling instructions. Clean all surfaces before applying silicone. It will prevent your sticking issues and protect the gasket from UV damage.
