suburban furnace vent

I have some minor rust developing around my furnace vent. I want to take off the vent cover to repair the rust/paint and I want o paint the vent cover black at the same time. Only problem is I can't figure out how to get it off. I removed the 6 screws and gave it a pretty good pull. the Bottom seems to have some movement but the top doesn't budge. Does anyone have any pointers on getting it off?

Quick question. Did you pull the furnace out on the inside?

No, I have not pulled it out. Does it need to be pulled to take off the external piece?

It would probably help if you removed it. Just a friction fit but it could be rusted on.

In my case, pulling the furnace would be pretty involved. It's possible the vent cap has some type of caulking between the van body and the vent cap that's holding it on. Suburban requires it and it's possible someone used some type adhesive. I'd try some gentle prying on the portion that seems stuck.

Yes, I believe it is put on with some sort of adhesive if I recall when I pulled mine off. I don’t remember if there’s a clamp or anything attached on the inside to the unit itself, don’t think so though, I think it just sleeved the exhaust.
I may have used a utility knife to cut around the vent and then gotten a plastic panel puller to pry it off, but I also had my interior ripped out and had access to the back side to give a few good taps from inside the van.

Thank you, guys. I will give it another go today. A was able to break the seal all the way around the perimeter with a flathead and some gentle prying. I was wondering if there was a clamp on the inside. I will take a look today. I don't know if the top is the vent or the intake but it feels like it is stuck to that pipe. It could just be corrosion.

Update. Finally getting back to this. Got the vent cover off but not without a little damage to said cover. Now in the process of tracking down a new cover while I fix the rust. My paperwork says the furnace model is a nt-16s. All the covers I can find that look like mine say they fit models NT-24,30,and 34. Has anyone replaced these and do you know if there is a difference in the part for the NT-16s?
