Sway bar bushing replacement & quick release

I've got an IPD front sway bar, pretty beefy. Just noticed I lost a bushing on the link. I'm thinking of replacing it, but also thought about adding detachable/quick release links. Anyone done this or have this? In searching around most seem set up for particular vehicles or lift kits; I'd need something somewhat customizable. On my van they're just descending rods, about 10", down to a plate welded on the front axle (4x4 obviously). In fact it looks like I could just undo the nut holding the top of said bar to the end of the sway bar...but I'm afraid that the end of the sway bar could pummel the link. Or maybe just rotate the link out of the way? Do the quick release versions have an attachment that make it easy to align them so they go back together?

Re: Sway bar bushing replacement & quick release

You probably should remove the entire link, not just release one end. Try to imagine the worst possible place the link could be when you hit a big rock; now figure sooner or later that will happen.

I'm guessing the link could damage stuff you don't want damaged when off-road.

Re: Sway bar bushing replacement & quick release

I guess I could zip tie it.

I saw an interesting mod by 4crawler.com: he used a turnbuckle assembly with eyebolts to make a quick disconnect in the front. I'd have to cut the rod on mine to do that, so maybe I'll just make a big old wingnut for the top, and something to hold the bar and the links out of the way.
