Sway bar holder

Figured I would share this little project that I've been thinking of doing for the last 15 years.

When running with my sway bar disconnected I've always secured it with a bungee cord. I've used the same bungee for the last 15 years and it stopped having "bungee action" many years ago and is basically a cheap piece of rope with two hooks now. It works, but not an elegant solution at all and I have always wanted to make a bracket that I could use to attach the sway bar link to to hold the sway bar up and out of the way when it is disconnected.

So, here is the result of the project in pics. I just finished about 3 weeks in Baja and it held just fine after many many harsh off-road miles (sorry, kilometers!).

That’s slick. Nice execution man!

Excellent idea and design - I'd been thinking of something similar for quite a long while. I'll definitely be referencing this as I work on my own. Keep us updated if it continues to work well. Did you place one on both passenger and driver sides of the vehicle?

Only on the driver's side. I've only ever used the bungee on that side and since it is only holding the rotational weight of the sway bar, 1 side should be enough.

After the Baja trip I'm confident it will hold for the long haul. I managed to snap my driverside spring / shock / track bar bracket through the u-bolt holes as others have done and snapped the bolt on the rear strap holding my Transferflow fuel tank this trip. If those failed and this held I feel good about it. Of course my next project is to spend time on the front end working on shock compression / extension limits, bump stops, brackets and maybe limit straps. The bump stop mods I did on the rear axle have made a world of difference and I need to replicate that up front. That will be a story for another post though ....

Thanks everyone for the positive comments! I appreciate them.
