Tail Light obscured by spare tire

Has anyone had issue with LE over the spare tire covering the tail light.

Not yet but I also worry about getting busted for junk in the cargo box and bike rack obscuring the license plate.

Re: Tail Light obscured by spare tire

Jage has a thread on adding brake/turn lights to his Aluminess bumper. I'm considering doing it, just haven't seen the right surface mount LED lamp.

(my license plate and light is relocated to the Aluminess bumper, and I have big reversing lights)

But I haven't had any LE issues, I am more worried about getting rear ended to be honest.

Re: Tail Light obscured by spare tire

No, but it offended me to have the spare block the tailight, so I moved my Aluminess tire carrier about 5 inches to the right. I only had to redrill a couple of holes and make a new top support strap.

Nope and I just got pulled over two days ago in a speed trap in a small town wanting money. I am sure if there was an issue with my SMB the cop would have found it.

I like the idea of moving it closer to the center but I don't want to have to open it every time I access the rear door...

There is no way I can open the rear door without opening the spare tire first???

Re: Tail Light obscured by spare tire

I've got a 315x16 tire hanging on the Aluminess bumper and tire carrier. I moved the tire to the left so I could open the right door without having to swing out the tire. Yup, it covers part of the tail light, but I've never been hassled - except by Skywagon.... There's just no pleasing some folks

Re: Tail Light obscured by spare tire

After I moved mine to the right, I cannot open the door without opening the spare first. It doesn't seem like a problem to me. In fact, If I could figure out how to lock the spare in position, it would act as a security lock for the rear door.

Re: Tail Light obscured by spare tire

My build is underway at SMB-west. I am having them add brake/turn lights to the rear corners of the penthouse. They will also function as emergency flashers. Can't have too many lights on the rear in my opinion, don't want to be rear ended. Extra cost was $304.
