Tilt Window Repair

Well on the way back from a nice desert drive, the side window glass popped off the arms. I need to re-attach them to the glass. Luckily I had some 3m tape and was able to tape the window down.

I remember seeing this issue, but can not find the tread with the fix. Anyone know how to find it.

Unfortunately it was a total failure after umpteen hours and $40 or $50 in supplies. So now my windows are gorilla glued closed permanently.

Well that sucks. I might try a glass place near my house to see if they can try. Seems there is no harm in trying.

We had one of the attachment points on the side window come loose from the glass...it was open while were parked on a street and I think a bicyclist hit it. I tried gluing it back together but was unsuccessful. I ended up taking the van back to SMB and they completely replaced it for about $600 as I recall...

As a desperation move, I'd try gluing the window back in with Sikaflex 5200. After getting every thing hospital clean and roughing up the glass, I think a bead of 5200 might just hold. We use the stuff in the marine industry all the time, but NEVER for something that will EVER need to be removed. It is the strongest adhesive I have ever seen and sticks to everything (including your hands and your hair if your not carefull) It's impossible to remove anything glued with the stuff. If you apply enough force, the substrate will come apart before the glue joint does. I'm not entirely sure how well it works on glass, but i'm guessing it will hold like crazy (not recomended for plastic though) If your comtemplating complete replacement of the window you have nothing to loose. Just don't get it in your hair

Thanks AT. I tried a combination of industrial tape and glue clamped all day. It seems good at this point, but will need to try it out. I had the tape to hold it and was going to take off and drill a few holes in the plate to give the glue something better to attach too, but could not get them apart with out fear of breaking glass. I just added the glue on the sides and top. Only time will tell. I also did not clean all the way to the glass. There is a coating along the edge that I left on.

It seems some type of glue should work, as this is what held it this long.

I also thought of trying to drill a hole to rivet the arm to the glass, but not that desperate yet.

I will try your suggestion if this does. It work.

Drilling tempered glass will result in a loud bang and a pile of cube shaped glass chunks.

So no drilling holes in the glass. I could replace glass with plexi.

My first attempt worked OK with only the back arm separating. After further inspection, I noticed the arms are not aligned evenly causing a constant torque on the arms from the glass. I cleaned up the rear one and added a spacer to help with the issue. We will see if that works.

Hi, I wanted to find out if there have been any further developments.
Today this happened to my awning window.



I am hoping to find an answer.
