Use of that old spare tire space under the e-series...
Has anyone seen or thought of something clever to do with the original spare tire space under the e-series? I was thinking about auxiliary water (maybe grey water), or tools storage or a safe. Wondering if anyone has seen a donut shaped idea before I design and build something?

A number of people have used the space for storage. Used to be someone made/sold a drop in box, after cutting an access, for that area with a cover.

Most of use have a hatch with under-floor storage, and many of us bought the boxes from member NorthLeftCoast here on the forum. If you want below-the-floor utilities, U-Joint Off-road has a mounting kit for that.

I installed a 16g fresh water tank in that space. Probably room for a bigger tank, but that was the size I had at the time.

I believe most of us have cut out the spare tire support bracket and put something rectangular in there. The idea of a donut shaped storage system is intriguing.

Thank you all for your replies. I saw the aluminum rectangular box offered by a vendor and I looked at the U-Joint vendor offering. Both dispose of the nicely engineered spare tire dropping mechanism which I think is quite clever. Designing something that uses this mechanism and actually dislocates from the van upon being dropped is an added feature that neither of the above considers. I will design something that is multi-purpose and bring it back to the forum. Cheers! Taking use case ideas!

Interesting idea. I'm not sure of the capacity rating, or it's stability, but it could make for an interesting way to lower an auxiliary battery, which are notorious for being a pain to install and remove.

I'd be interested in an auxiliary water tank or fuel tank that mounted in the spare spot.
