As always, Peter replied promptly and let me know that they now use Universal Brand UB4D AGM's. He said they are same quality as the Deka's, but after research, I decided to go with LifeLine. Much more expensive (I can get 2 - Lifelines for the price of 3 Universal's), but I really don't want to replace these often and hope to get another 7 years.
Phil, I'm curious what pricing did you get on the Lifeline? I'm shopping for one but with no dealers in Flagstaff I'm going to take it on the chin with shipping on a 140lb battery.

Cool, thanks! $550 here plus shipping so looking at $600+.

But since this is the daily improvement affirmation thread....hood louvers, re-insulating the dog haus, and installation of a gps tracking device are the projects this week.

Thumbs up

Just made a trip to the local scales with the rig fully loaded. The scales show 7100lbs which is 200 lbs under the van’s GVWR. This is the first official full-load trip to the scales after the Aluminess bumpers/boxes were installed. We also upgraded the tires from P rated stock to E rated and run at a comfortable 50psi about three years ago. There is no butt sag and the rig drives like it is on rails.

; ) The only bad news is my wife realized she could only bring ~200 lbs of prospecting gear.

What did you do to your SMB today?

Well, it wasn't a project on the SMB, but is related. I had a removable skid mounted 30 gal. water tank that fit into my trailer, taking up valuable space, especially now with transporting the KTM and the need for the water tank for rinse offs after desert rides. I ordered up a new slim 24 gal. tank, had the fire wood box shortened to fit a new semi-permanent mounted tank on the outside of the trailer box. I painted it with black dupli-color, finished re-wiring and plumbing it in, the pump is now mounted inside the tongue box. I have the eco-temp propane hot water on demand unit that hooks up to it.

Yes, thanks. Pretty happy with it, I have to slightly modify the wood box again. They made it a bit narrower than originally thought, I have to just flip the front horizontal bar to the outside of the box so I can fit in some fuel cans. Side note-I've twice now ordered directly from Ronco Plastics, super great to work with, fast shipping and great prices, usually lower than advertised. This is the B446 26 gal. marine water tank, ordered it with an inspection plate, would have gotten the black inspection plate had I known it was available, ask to see if they do their tanks in black as well. Again, an oversight on my part, but water tanks exposed to UV will grow funky stuff inside the tank. Hoping that a few cans of Dupli-Color will remedy that, plus, now painted black should help pre heat the water for shower use.

Finally got my custom plate. I wonder who will be the first to see it.
