Re: What did you do to your SMB today?

Herb ,
You may want to contact Jason at Star Lights in Goleta for one of the New Black LED motion sensor
Porch Lights like Alan Feld and I have , He also carry's a decent assortment of replacement automotive LED Bulbs www.starlightsinc.com Model 1000 is the one to purchase and specify LED in lieu of Incandescent . Very well made and easy to replace the existing Porch Lights that come with our Vans .

Yes, I just wired them together to see at first. Or rather I spliced into the existing one; LED with bulb adapter. It uses a non-significant amount of voltage I left it that way. I did unscrew the base for the old bulb though to make it fit. Red to red, black to black on the splice..

Re: What did you do to your SMB today?

Finished my aux stop/turn signal project! I took photos but I've got about 5 projects to load up, AND we're going for a drive tomorrow so it will have to wait.

Re: What did you do to your SMB today?

Repaired a broken day/night shade. The string had broken. I replaced it with:

http://www.mcmaster.com/#wire-rope/=6y5ipw

0.027 302 stainless wire rope. 125# breaking strength. It will not break in this application. I may wear out the shades, but I won't replace the 'string' again.

Restringing was not difficult. I drew a diagram as I took it apart. Routing the wire rope was no problem. The big trick was setting the tension. There is a spring at the bottom, an the wires/strings are tied to it. Adjusting the length adjusts the tension. But, it almost needs to be in place, check tension, reset, repeat until happy, then crimp in in place. All in all, 2 hours max.

The wire rope is a little noisier than the string was. I guess that should have been expected as the wire rope has some texture to it while the string is pretty smooth.

I think the noise will be music to my ears because I know it won't break.

I didn't do it technically but I had my front bearings repacked and seals replaced.

Re: What did you do to your SMB today?

Getting ready for a 2 month trip to Newfoundland and Labrador. Have 100K miles on van and started to schedule plugs and coolant change. Then found out I did it late last fall!!! Also do Mobil I oil before putting in storage in December. "Found" another place to add 0.5 cft of storage and am working on the cabinet as I type. Waiting for some glue to dry. Will also move some lights under the new cabinet to give us more light at our dinning/game table at night. Need to REALLY start packing for the trip. Make sure we have the papers we need to take the cat into Canada and back. Need to get tires rotated...

Re: What did you do to your SMB today?

Got some new shoes. Toyo Open Country M/T's and Eagles Wheels.

Wasn't sure that it would fit on a raised Quigley so I got the wheels and tires new separately to try instead and keeped the old set just in case.. I wanted a wider tires but not taller in diameter so went from a 285/75/16 to a 305/70/16 which is wider by an inch and taller by less then an inch.
So far so good. Lost the smoothness of a BFG AT but now remembering what a M/T sounds like on the highway. Not as bad as the BFG M/T's I remember eons ago.
