I need to figure out how to clean it. I am glad I know how to do it, but will probably pay to have it done next time.

How often do you replace fuel filter?
Fuel filters go a long way. 100k plus is ok if you use good fuel. If you buy no name brand fuel then at least half that.

Restrung a day nite-shade the other day. I used traditional shade cord instead of the wire that many here have used. It went well with no problems.

A great move, did the same to ours years ago, ya don't need the belt at crawling speed, especially when reaching behind for a cold one in the desert!

Replaced my LT245/75R16 DynaPro A/S tires after seven years (OEM with van purchase via SMB Fresno with a 60K mileage limit).

The tire owner's manual said to change them out after six years if you haven't worn out the tread by then. The tread was still almost like new - right up to Lincoln's nose. However, there were a few serious small cracks in the tread on at least two of the tires and one looked nearer to a puncture it went so deep. So, better safe than sorry after only 30K miles.

I had Sears install four LT245/75R16 DynaPro AT-M tires for $688. Consumer Report's 2016 magazine rated these pretty high (just 2-wheeling, but need the M+S certification for my area). Various auto web sites gave them pretty good reviews too. The ride is much smoother than on the A/S tires and it's a tad bit quieter too, both of which make me very happy.

We'll have to see how they wear but it's likely that I'll hit the time limit again before hitting the 50K mileage limit on them. If so I will switch one out for my OEM spare which would be 13 years old by then. That's about as much risk as I can stand.

Replaced water heater anode

Every step of the journey in these vans is a learning experience for me...

I finally got around to digging into the suburban water heater for some maintenance & it looked to be long past due! The swap out took just a few minutes including flushing out the tank (didn't buy the tool to flush out just used the hose). The system seems to work better now & I'd guess after all the deposits i flushed out will taste better too...

I was surprised by how much water was in the heater tank after I pulled the anode - I had never done this when winterizing the van via a gravity drain...

All in all a well spent $15.

I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of a set of 102" ATS running boards for my 03 SMB EB. Has anybody done an install on these? I understand they need to be cut down to fit.
