More van projects. The tires on the van are 285-70R17 and weigh in at around 90 lbs. So I decided to make a spare tire davit. I use a 400 lb capacity block and tackle with this and it makes getting the spare tire up and down much easier. The davit consists of two pieces, a vertical piece and a horizontal piece which are removable and two mounts which are on the spare tire carrier. The first photo shows an overall view of it. The second shows the top and the third and forth show the mounts on the bottom of the carrier and the diagonal tube. The pieces are held together with clevis pins. I have used it to remove and reinstall the spare tire on the rack. We have a spare tire up on the roof rack on our fixed top and I have a davit for it which I've fabricated but have not tested yet.

New Fox shocks

My shocks have been blown for a looong time, one of them leaked out all over my axle and made a nasty mess. So I ordered up some Fox 2.0 shocks from Agile upon everyone here’s recommendations.

It was quite a bit of work figuring it all out and which shocks I need because they are very different lengths front and rear so had to remove the old ones first to measure what a pain that was. Then had my van weighed 6,400 pounds! It sure wasn’t fun laying on my back for hours removing those old ones which the bolts were seized up took much longer than I thought.

The new ones look sweet though and I’m ready to blast down some dirt trails now ! Yeee haaaa.

What did you do to your SMB today?

Big day for the sportsmobile today. Just finished with my buddy in random order:
Hydroboost
Redhead steering box
E450 master cylinder
35 spline axles up front
Dynatrac hubs
New Ujoints
2008 big brakes
Custom mounted BPD oil cooler below bumper
Dynatrac steering knuckles.

Ton of work and time. The write ups are missing some key details but managed to get it done. I’ll be fabbing up a custom scoop and brace but super happy with the new spot and not having it stuffed behind the winch.

This is on the heels of the tru-cool tranny cooler. Next up is the Amp power steps and my roof fan. Then I’m done. Lol

It was great and now even better. It was under braked and I fell in hard to "well if your going that far you might as well...." The oil cooler thing bugged me and seemed so botched I to take care of that. Brakes are what started this while thing. Thanks to Oldbonesclimber, badgertrek, and JoeH for the diligent write-ups.

Big brakes! Nice job Vandiesel! And an external oil cooler to boot. A lot of work indeed.
