Also, does anyone know if you absolutely have to remove the downpipes shield if you add insulation to the doghouse. I'm not sure how to gauge the clearance there. I thought I would wrap the downpipe too.

OK, the friend I referred to is the one who started this thread. I don't think I realized this when I first responded. I didn't know her username then. She (Ledger) installed the full Quiet Ride kit on her 7.3 van. I was going to help but she needed it done before I could get to it. Conclusion: AMAZING!

I just drove this van around a little and it is unbelievably quiet. It's quieter than my 460 gasser (which does have an aftermarket exhaust, but not a loud one). I don't know how to compare it to anything but this has to be the best upgrade anyone can do to a 7.3.

I'm dumbfounded.

I'm convinced.

I'm schooled.

No affiliation to Quiet Ride.

86Scotty, when you say she installed the full kit are you referring all of the interior, roof, sides, floor, or just the dog house cover that made the big difference in sound?

Garage
Another affordable option is B-Quiet Ultimate 50 sq.ft. Roll.

I have no affiliation.

Did my old van's dog house and it was great. Just ordered enough to do my new van (the whole rig) at a fraction of the cost of Dynomat and the same performace IMHO. I can't speak for Quite Ride but I know if 86Scotty is impressed it's gotta be a good product.

B-Quite filled and shipped my order in a day and it will be here on Wednesday and I didn't ask for speedy shipping or anything, I may have just gotten lucky. Looking forward to having a quiet ride as our 4000 mile trip in the new rig was a bit much when I was used to a quiet 7.3 and the 6.0 was really loud.

is removing the doghouse as easy as unbuckling the latches and pulling it out?

Yes. You may want to remove the cup holders (they just slide up) to lighten the dog house a little and it removes some of the bulk when trying to move the dog house out of the way.

No, I just mean the doghouse and front floor. I'll ask her again when I see her to double check though.

I just took my doghouse apart on my 7.3 and added the Frost King butyl & foil backed duct wrap to the engine side of the doghouse then added the stock fiberglass and aluminum doghouse liner over that. After installing I'm concerned if the Frost King will ho!d up to the temps under there. Has anybody done this or know if it will holdup to those temps? It would suck to take it all apart again but that's better than an engine fire.
