Re: Yet another BFG Tire fail.

Tire ratings vary by size. See the BFG TKO chart at TireRack.com:

Re: Yet another BFG Tire fail.

I haven't heard of other D rated tire failures. Has anyone else?

My tires 285/70-17 max fill pressure is 65.

Re: Yet another BFG Tire fail.

Other D failures? Yes, had three of this type myself and have heard of many more... all BFG ATs.

Other D failures in other brands? No.

Re: Yet another BFG Tire fail.

I lost 5 BFGs to seperations many years ago with a half ton 4x4 truck. It was probally because of airing down too far for Pismo beach. Put on a set of Bridgestones after the last failure and what a difference in the ride.

Re: Yet another BFG Tire fail.

I just had a Michelin blow out on a LT245/75R-16 Michelin LTX M/S2 E. So even E rated inflated to 80 psi with never exceed speed of 65 and a weighbridge weight of 8800 lbs is not a recipe for safety. The tire was fitted in 2008 and I had 15000 only highway miles on it.

I felt a slight wiggle before the blow out (not a deflation) which blew the Bushwacker flare off the side of the van and ripped open the rear heater hoses; and also detroyed the fresh water valve. Jacking and replacing the spare was another story as the standard jack is not up to the task and other than the axle there is no accessible jack point for the rear of these vans.

2 BFG AT tread separations here. The last one was on the passenger rear and caused a lot of damage. Stop immediately if you feel an unfamiliar wobble... Expensive lesson to learn.

"wait, I don't have vibrating seats in this vehicle..."

Another good simulation? Have your friendly local dealer leave your van hood unlatched, with just the safety catch attached and drive, oh about 55-60 mph- feels about the same.

Re: Yet another BFG Tire fail.

Jage, I gotta admit that I can't believe any other tire company can continue to exist with Toyo in the game. It ain't about cost or the venerable old brand names, they are just plain better than anything out there. I put 3800 miles on 'em, last time out, in the worst conditions possible, passed dozens of other vehicles w/ flats after floggin' them Toyos at 75+ mph, and I didn't even carry a spare. Nuff sed

Now tell all the nice folks what you replaced yours with
