Battleborn is a great company, however, you can DIY a LifePo4 battery for 1/4 the price.

I literally bought 1120 ah of LifePo4 batteries for $2k. That would be $11k if I went through Battleborn.

My mechanic is installing the BattleBorn 100ah this week since I don’t have the equipment to remove the heavy AGM that I’m replacing. Looking forward to using it next week for a two night trip to a nearby lake for some kayaking. Will report back.

In the meantime, thanks all for your comments. FYI, per BB, the battery is fully sealed, used in marine applications and can be safely stored under the van. (It is in fact fully sealed.) All the existing charging equipment is compatible though I’ll have to reprogram the Magnum Energy unit to Li specs. BB also recommended changing the battery isolation manager but the product they recommend is on infinite backorder. The Blue Sea unit in the van is fine. The upgrade will allow 100% charging.

As long as we’re spending money, we bought and installed another 100ah battery for our Chaser trailer. We have a National Luna freezer in the Chaser and the new battery means we can go multiple days without hooking up a solar panel to recharge. We spent 6 nights out last week and probably could have made it the whole time without recharging but I was playing with the system and charging it when it didn’t need to be.

We’re done spending money on the SMB now.

Ok. The battery is in place, I adjusted the absorption, float & equalize settings on the Magnum Inverter per the BattleBorn instructions in and the voltage readings look fine. I had some questions about low battery cutoff, absorb time and charge rate but LarryB already did the homework in this post, summarized in this PDF he created, with Greg/Scalf77's usual helpful commentary. I do have one remaining concern: I don't know whether SMB wired the rooftop solar panel directly to the battery or ran it through the Magnum inverter. Unfortunately, the SMB "schematics" don't show the solar panel.

The BlueSky 2000E charge controller does not support lithium and could overcharge the battery. I need to double back to BattleBorn on this topic because I told them it was wired to the inverter. Their lithium-supporting charge controllers are an option--if I configure out what to do with the hole left after the much smaller unit is place in the BlueSky spot. In the meantime, does anyone know how the panel is wired into the system?

The BlueSky will be directly connected to the battery, they would not go thru the magnum/inverter/charger.

Thanks, Greg. Looks like I need to replace it.
