2011 MB Sprinter 2500 Sliding Door Doorway Lamp

This evening was the first time I've driven the 2011 MB Sprinter in the darkness. When I open the sliding door, the lamp down by the step does not go on. I have the interior convenience lighting set to go on when a door is open (and in fact the lights in the cab do go on). I could not find anything in the owner's manual. Is there a separate switch? Is it a setting via the steering wheel buttons for the on-board computer? Again, tried but did not see anything dealing with that light. Thanks in advance.

There is a switch on the light above the back doors that controls the back door light and the step light at the sliding door. Crazy huh?

Very crazy. And when SMB upfitted the Sprinter, they removed (by unplugging) the light fixtures. So there's now no switch. I suppose had the switch been in a different position when the light fixture was removed the step light would work!! But now, there's no way to plug the light back in, because the ceiling covers the socket. And because the lights are controlled by a controller, it won't work to try to splice the light fixture into the wires feeding the step light. Ugh.
