abs / check brakes light

driving in sand, 4 low, 4 high, my abs and check brake light comes on dash. Does it in sand every time I go, once re started after being in sand and back on the road, not an issue? Thought it may be due to wheel spin, but not sure?

any ideas are appreciated.

thanks

carl

Re: abs / check brakes light

Does your ABS work? Mine was working sporadically and I had the opposite problem ('95 Quigley with 4 wheel ABS). On mine the ABS light was on until I went into 4wd, then it went off in either 4 high or 4 low. In my case, it turned out to be the ECU/valve body for the ABS. I don't know if that helps you at all?

I know the functioning can be checked with the Ford diagnostic socket, whatever it's called, OBD or something? In my case I found the valve unit for about half the Ford factory price online but it does have to be installed by someone with a special tool for setting it up.

If that's what your problem is, the whole repair, ECU and all was about a thousand. I know some folks have just ignored the problem but with a lifted, heavy vehicle I preferred to have a functioning ABS.

Re: abs / check brakes light

It probably detecting too much difference in wheel speed among the tires. Once the light comes on, your ABS shuts off. That is not a bad thing on sand.

Re: abs / check brakes light

I assumed it was from wheel slip/spin, which as you said, is fine.
