Re: Adding an inverter to SMB
I just kept it simple by having a 110v outlet just for the inverter, and one for shore power. Works flawlessly and is impossible to screw up.

Re: Adding an inverter to SMB
I'm still not clear on the refer AC issue and the AC circuit in general.
How would you send AC through the outlets without send to the refer? If I flipped the switch to AC, using the power from the inverter, doesn't it also switch the refer to AC?
I attached an inverter as well, but did it from the van battery. I use it to charge when running since I have 8 million gadgets that have AC chargers. It also allows me to use a relatively powerful AC device that I only want to use on generated power, i.e. not from my house batteries. I thought of routing this through the AC outlets, but turned out I'd actually wind up with less wire strung about if I just used an extension cord.

Rob, most SMB builds (or what SMB told me) have a dedicated AC breaker that feeds the fridge only. So if you really want the inverter to not power the refrigerator while your using it for say a laptop or something small, you need to flip that breaker off so it stays on the 12 volt side. I did a load test some time back and it didn't make a whole lot of difference. It was like an amp or so. I don't generally keep the inverter on for long periods of time but if you're going to watch a video or something and need AC for that long I guess it would be a good idea.

Re: Adding an inverter to SMB
You can safely leave the 110v AC off the fridge too and have it only attached at the 12v- this makes it slightly less efficient when on shore power, but it's not something you're likely to notice. It would make things less complex at the cost of some fridge efficiency, some of the time.

My fridge AC plug has been unplugged since the first time I pulled the fridge out. It draws so little current (2A) when running that it doesn't matter. And going through an inverter to power it with AC would draw more power from the batteries.
