Alarm Info?

Thought I saw somewhere here of an alarm type system that made the vehicle immobile when a key or plug type device was removed. Tried a search here with no luck. Anyone have any info on such a system.

If I remember correctly it was very simple.

I have one installed and use it religiously. Once you get in the habit you don't even think about. I have the plug to the left of the steering wheel and below the lower dash so it hangs down. If you do it there be sure to have it clear of the parking brake travel and your foot has room to operate the P.B. Mine is just barely. If I had to do it over I'd have it put in the dash but that does complicate removing that panel as the install tech said. Pricy but worth it the peace of mind.

There used to be a few of the types of thing you are talking about. They were usually installed near the ignition switch and you inserted a key into a slot to start the car. Quite Popular back in the 80-90s.

You can kill the van from starting a bunch of different ways like installing a hidden switch for the fuel
pump or ignition system. You can also do it so it blows a fuse if the switch is not turned off but if you forget that is kind of a pain. I used to do that for my boats when they were in the water. For something simple you can just take the fuel pump fuse with you. I think on your van (gas) it is fuse F13 20 Amp Large Size Fuse in the Battery Junction Box under the hood on the drivers side. And F6 20 Amp Small Size kills the fuel injectors. My wiring diagrams are for 2008 so they might not be the same.

Most newer alarm systems (especially ones with remote start as well) can be wired so if they are armed the vehicle will not start no matter what wires you cut, they would need to be spliced to be able to start. My alarm has starter and ignition cut, two way remotes that lets me know if anyone is tampering with it up to one mile. You can also get Cell phone modual that connects to your phone anywhere you or your van has service. You van can be at home and you could be in Florida and if anything happens it will let you know. It does have a monthly service charge however.

Off the top of my head, I want to say it was right around $400 installed, including the AAA discount. One nice thing, is that they come to you to install it.

I agree, somewhere between $400 & $450 with AAA discount & 2 plugs. I also got an extra plug for $35 after the fact. I'm surprised pricing isn't on the website somewhere.
