Re: Any recommendations for a new van battery?

Daveb: Thank you for defining the yo-yo effect. I was familiar with the concept but not the name.

What AGM then do you recommend for the two starting batteries on a diesel these days then?

(I apologize if you have already stated the brand/model/specs in another post.)

Thanks for your help.

Re: Any recommendations for a new van battery?

Many are going with the Diehard; I went with Odyssey. Odyssey makes some of the Sears batteries but whether or not they are internally the same is still unknown to me. The Diehard's made by the Odyssey Corp do look the same on the outside. What I will say is Sears is everywhere and for the price/warranty is hard to beat. Battery manufactures are a highly debated.

Any recommendations for a new van battery?

Medium term report on the Sears Platinums: I let the van sit for too long and the batteries drained. One all the way, the other nearly so. The one that completely drained died. Sears replaced it with no questions asked.

Re: Any recommendations for a new van battery?

From what I've read, it's a bad idea to mix a new fresh battery with an old wounded one.
Maybe someone who knows something about batteries can back me up or correct me on this.

Thanks for backing me up. I was aware of that issue.

Before "mixing", the slightly "old" battery was tested good, then given a full charge. Both batteries were re-intalled reading 100% on the charge.

Re: Any recommendations for a new van battery?

Replaced both van batteries today with Diehard Platinums. One battery had an internal short which was causing slow starts. Changing those batteries is a real PITA!
