Anyone carry a spare alternator?

I just got back my DC power 270amp alternator back from being refurbished. I installed a leece-Neville while that was out. Wondering if I post it for sale or keep a spare.

I carried one that I replaced after it had an issue they kept triggering the charging light. It still made power though, so I kept it as a spare for the cost of the core charge...

I would keep it especially if its still good. I recently replaced a starter because the engine wouldnt start (it was a wiring issue) ,I decided to keep the old starter since it was still good.

Thanks guys. I think I will keep it. It actually fits better that the big bad leece so maybe put it in to get stock brackets back in.

Carry it in the van as a spare. We had one go out a thousand miles from home and I was able to swap out in the lot of an Auto Zone. In addition to keeping the trip on schedule it was worth it just for the spousal points bonus.

Arctictraveler might have an extra one rolling around in the back of his van…….

He doesn’t because he rolls with a full machine-shop setup in his van so he can fabricate anything he needs on the fly. [emoji41]

I don’t carry an extra one, only because it would take up premium space & weight (alternator = about 15lbs, then 200lbs for the mechanic I’d have to take along in the event his services would be needed)

No you’re way off…..any mechanic willing to ride around with you waiting for your alternator to crap out would have to weigh in excess of 300lbs.
