Auxilary Driving Lights

I'm ready to put larger round aux lights on my front bumper. Something around 7-8" dia. So many out there, it's hard to judge from the internet sites that sell them. I use the PIAA smaller fog and driving lamps already, which will remain.

Any suggestions for something 55w or greater?

The lightforce are nice, but huge and the lenses cost extra. I probably would have gone with something else had I not gotten a deal.

The Hellas which most of the Aluminess owners have are terrible. Even with a relay mine are hardly worth turning on... seriously I think they are more for looks than actual driving.

Thanks for the warnings and the advice. I'll check out those HID's.

I'm Looking at the Hello Black Magic set. About 8" diameter and 55 watts. Is that enough? I need LIGHT!

To be honest with you, i think you need 80-100watts. The standard HELLA 500's that come in the bumper from SMB aren't worth much and their 55 watts. Bigger lense will make a difference, but i think you need more wattage. Remember HID's draw less too if you go shopping around for those. They'll be like 35 watts. You could do HELLA 1000's then switch them over to HID if you want too. Tons of options out there.

Jeffrey,

If I were going to add lights I'd go with these LED-based lights. From what I've read, their light output is amazing and fairly comparable to HIDs. I think they're as expensive as HIDs, but I'd much prefer a light that's built around a bunch of LEDs, not to mention their low profile appearance.

I think Aluminess should start making bumpers to accommodate these type of light assemblies.

Herb, the LED's are amazing too. I agree. I've seen them in person and man they are bright. They aren't cheap though.

I've got the Hella Black Magic and they worked plenty good for my trip. They are more of a straight forward beam as opposed to the Hella's mounted in the bumper which seem to give me a wide angle beam.
