Re: How to test AA and AAA Batteries?

I use the same general idea as 86Scotty but I have a sand blaster with a very small pencil "eraser" which works to get the stuff out of the crevices. But one of the problems is that the stuff that leaks out of the batteries seems to corrode the chrome on the springs making future battery contact iffy. In my experience, it isn't worth continuing to use even the newest Duracell batteries.

Re: How to test AA and AAA Batteries?

I use the ZTS mini tester that E350 recommends. I have switched to rechargeable batteries sold at Costco. None have leaked so far.

So a related question, any suggestion on how to clean that white/gray corrosion off the battery contacts in a device?
Didn't mean to imply or call anyone crazy especially not you E350 My only thought was is this that big an issue for most of us? Indeed we all might have different priorities when it comes to what are disposable batteries.

Duracel certainly is a brand name that carries a premium price, perhaps only due the name. The ProCel versions in my experience have always performed beyond expectations and their somewhat unique characteristics make them great for a longer useful life in devices that need a constant voltage/amperage output.

Leaks even after a few years haven't yet been noticed but I'd never claim its impossible. Most times leaking cases have been discovered it was always a "lesser" brand---pick one.

When/if they do leak the small brass bristle brushes are great----gun cleaning tools would work for this. For electronic remotes or similar devices most electronics supply houses have different chemicals for this very use. Careful selection is important as some can damage battery compartments--for this reason I tend to stay with the mechanical process of corrosion removal.
