I have 2 4D AGMs as my house batteries, one is new and the other was tested when SMB Texas installed the 2nd. My starter batteries though seem to be having a tough time any reason I shouldn't replace them with Optima? I've got Blue Top in my Jeep and it's awesome- what's the right choice for the 6.0L Diesel?

Jage,

I've been hearing a lot about how Optima is not the company it once was. I hear it was sold a number of years back. Too bad, because my Red Top in my Bronco is 10 years old, spent a number of years in the Arizona heat, and still fires up my Bronco on the first try every time.

I have heard very good things about Odyssey and Deka batteries

True. Optima is not the battery or the company that it used to be. If I remember the story correctly the company was purchased, and shortly thereafter their batteries were derated. The Yellow Tops had no equals and had a huge part of the growing EV conversion market where Pba would work..... and now they are almost no longer a player.

jage, here is something to consider,
install a battery switch between your 4D, this would isolate the 4D and prevent one battery feeding off the other,

Batteries

I've had 8 Optima batteries... However I would recommend Odyssey..

The alternator will not charge the batteries to 100%. You'll get up to about 90%, best case scenario. For optimum battery performance, you'll need to plug the van into shore power or add solar. Either option will get your batteries fully charged.
