Re: Battery type question

Look at all of the choices you have now...and you almost bought a completely different battery...

Have fun shopping...

Re: Battery type question

When it comes down to who makes the best it depends on design but also on the quality of the lead...generally you get what you pay for. Companies like Sears use a variety of manufactures and can even change from year to year so do your homework. Batteries that are made for industy equipment ot the military are usually the finest grade.

Re: Battery type question

I've been using that West Marine/Seavolt/East Penn AGM group 27 brand and it's been very steady. Some fellow sailors say you can get the same Deka for a bit less at an industrial supply place if you don't have to pay shipping. They're well regarded.

As for winching, I'm assuming any winch on a SMB would be about 10K pull and draw over 400 amps. Optima yellowtops are popular for this sort of thing with jeepers; they're a dual purpose battery and the idea, I suppose, is that so much juice is being drawn even with the alternator running that some extra overhead from the battery helps. A high output alternator might be even more useful in this application.
