On vehicles over 80" wide, they are a federal requirement. Which is why I have them on my dually.

On smaller vehicles, mostly for looks. But they can also illuminate low hanging objects (branches, ATM drive though etc.)

Steve,

I always thought they were always for the Cool Factor for the trucker dudes. Hey, more lights the better.

Re: cab over running lights

Bling is good. But so is making yourself as visible as possible, so just MAYBE that idiot on his cell phone or the idiotess doing her makeup might catch you out of the corner of their eye in time to avoid T- boning you. Perhaps put them on a flashing circuit and paint the van lime green. Everything helps

Re: cab over running lights

nice lights saabman .....

I just always wanted running lights and this is the only time I'll ever do it .. on my SMB ... so it's strictly bling for me.

Re: cab over running lights

Bling and visibility are both very, very good.

I see where you'd mount roof marker lights on a penthouse, but where do cab-over running lights go on a factory roof?

On the roof just over the cab area where the roof slopes down to the windshield...
