Cables to front seats

So I ripped out the front floor yesterday and was looking at these cables going to the front seats.

My seats are not powered and I presume they are for detection whether someone is in the seat or not? Possibly for airbag reasons?

Anyways, any reason why I can't short them and have tehm think someone is always in the seat? Cant think of a reason not to do this.

Any help would be great. Thanks!

PS. This is from a 1998 E350 Cargo

Those wires are for the seatbelt pre-tensioners in your van (as well as the seatbelt reminder). The Pre-tensioners are an important safety feature. They take up seatbelt slack during a collision. If you remove the wiring, the pre-tensioners won't work, and you'll have the SRS light on all the time.

Well then, thats that haha. My pre-tensioner on driver side is garbage as it is. I'll have to see if any lights come on if I unplug it, but seems rather important.

I always pull the SRS fuse (per the manual-I think Fuse #20??) and disconnect the starting battery (and separate the house batteries) to avoid triggering the SRS dash light when disconnecting the seat wiring connector; I'm concerned that my basic OBDII scanner may not be able to erase an SRS code.......
