Cell phone booster

I am asking for input about cell phone boosters. I have no need for internet out in the boonies, just cell phone when needed. What is the best, wireless or plug in antenna while in the SMB? With your booster, are you able to use your cell phone from Saline Valley?
Thanks for any info.

Woody

Re: Cell phone booster

Thanks Charlie,

I did a search for "Cell phone boosters" earlier this morning but didn't get the answers I was looking for, so I ran a new post. The link you sent me to with CellularSteve's post answers some questions.

Thanks again,
Woody

Re: Cell phone booster

We have used a Wilson cell phone external antenna on past cell phones. It worked very well. We could be in areas that had near zero bars and the Wilson antenna would bring in a signal. We have Verizon as our cell provider. Last time we upgraded our phones they NO LONGER carried ANY phones that can have external antennas (a small port on the back of the phone) attached to them.

Re: Cell phone booster

I am running a Wilson amplifier, cradle and antenna...no external port req on the phone, just place in the cradle
Works great as I can see the difference between standing outside the rig and placing it in the cradle

Re: Cell phone booster

We got ours at Flying J. The exterior antenna I THINK cost about $20 and the cell phone specific adapter costs also about $20. We had to buy a second adapter when we upgraded cell phones once.

The more sophisticated cradle and in vehicle wireless Wilson systems cost $300 to $500 I think. Maybe "DisabledExplorers" remembers how much his system cost.

Re: Cell phone booster

I've been using this signal booster for about a year.

http://www.repeaterstore.com/products/W ... fier-Kit-2

It works quite well and it is very portable.

But there is one catch, the phone or wireless card must be very close (i.e., within 6-12 inches) to the amplifier to pick up the stronger signal. So you can't freely move about camp, or even the van when on the phone or surfing the web.

Even with that limitation, however, it is a good product.

Re: Cell phone booster

Me, I'd rather have a cell phone blocker. Unless it's an emergency situation that is.

Re: Cell phone booster

Thanks for all the input.
My wife and I use our cell phones about 20 minutes each per year. Like my wife says "with a cell phone and AAA you have it made". I am trying to set up our SMB with as much safety as I can.

Thanks again,
Woody
