Do I need fuses?

Hi! First post and glad to be here. I am about to wire up my system and suspect that I am overlooking a safety issue. I have a 35amp charger feeding four 6v gc2 batts wired up into a 12v bank, with two inverters springing off that. The first inverter is 1600w and powers a 1440w 120v h2o heater. The second inverter is 1000watt and powers an 80 watt fan, plus a 1.3amp fridge(149watts?).
Should I have fuses between the batteries and inverters?
Any recommendations on size?
My longest Cable run is 20inches. Hoping to use 2/0 for the bank and 1awg to the inverters.
Hope you all are well,
Justin

Only fuse the conductors you don't want to burn up.
I'm guessing the charger has a fused output.
I would put over current protection on the leads from the batteries to the inverters.
As for sizing, W=VA. W/V=A. V=W/A

Everything you need to know to get a C grade on the written exam for wiring inverters can be found in the sticky.

Consider buss circuit breakers.......they're resettable.

Assuming that your 1440W electric water heater uses a std 1" straight thread heating element, consider swapping that out for a 200W or 300W 12V element. They screw right in plug and play. The trade here is you may need larger gauge wire (haven't done the calcs...let's see 1440/110=13 amps vs 200/12=17 amps)....not huge....

The other downside is it takes 7 times longer to heat the water....but.....

Heating water with your house batteries is a tough challenge; using an inverter to make 110VAC to heat the water is roughly about 92% efficient, adding another 8% of wasted battery power that goes to heating up the inverter and spinning the inverter fan to get rid of that heat.

I have a 2 gallon electric water heater that came with a 1440W element; I've switched that out for a 200W element and by day three of camping and showering once a day my house batteries get down to about 50% state of charge (12.2V or so).....so it't tough.....I've got 340AH in house batteries and 300W of solar on the roof.
