eratic Airbag light

Last week my wife and I were cruising along in our Sportsmobile buckled up as usual, and all of a sudden the airbag light on the dash started blinking. It comes on about every minute or so blinks 3 or 4 times and goes out. It does it every time I start the vehicle. Has anyone else ever experienced this? 1995 Econoline 142000 miles. Mechanically rock solid, everything works, and always maintained. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks

Mine did something similar. Check the connection under the passenger swivel seat. Mine was loose.

Re: eratic Airbag light

My 2005 did this last trip... it would actually do the blinking 3 to 4 times then stay on for 2-3 start and drive cycles. After that it did the blinking and went out, came on once while driving then stayed off the rest of the trip.

I know if the wires are loose it can't sense the seat sensor and will come on and stay on, so I'd agree with Craig. If not that and it stays on through several start/drive cycles it might be time to get it checked. I think the airbag system is part of the seatbelts/safety and has some kind of longer warranty...

Re: eratic Airbag light

I had the same issue about 2 months back. Called the dealer they wanted 300 to figure it out. I searched on the internet and this is what I came up with. When the air bag light is flashing, it is sending you a code. If it flashes twice, then six times then repeats the cycle it is sending you the code 26. I forget what code mine was flashing, but it led me to the connection under the driver seat that had come undone. I should have printed out the codes and saved them. Good luck!

Re: eratic Airbag light

As Craig said, check your connections. I suggest looking at both seats. The day after I got my SMB I swiveled the passenger seat around, then the light came on. I had nicked the wire. fixed it and the light hasn't come on since.
